The parade happens every year, rain or shine in spring. The parade is on March 21, 2020, and it all culminates in a festival known as The Fiesta de las Golondrinas. The festival and parade celebrate the return of the swallows to the city. The parade is one of the nation’s largest parades that is not motorized. But there are a few things you should know before you head out to the festivities. For example, the parade route, time, road closures, and the best way to get there.
Parade Time and Route
The parade starts promptly at 11 am and goes through downtown San Juan Capistrano. The parade starts near the Camino Real Playhouse. You can find the Playhouse at the corner of El Camino Real and Ortega Highway. The Swallows Day Parade 2020 San Juan Capistrano route goes along Ortega Highway up to Del Obispo Street. The parade then takes a right on Camino Capistrano and finishes just past La Zanja Street.
Road Closures and Shuttle
Roads will be closed during the parade. In fact, road closures begin at 10 am. The roads of the parade route will be closed in the area which might make it difficult to find parking or get around. You may want to avoid this area if you do not plan on attending the parade or the festivities. However, there are other options if you plan to attend the parade. The best option would be the shuttle. The shuttle runs from 8:30 am until 5:30 pm. You can find free parking at 30800 Rancho Viejo Road, SJC, and at the Capistrano Business Plaza at 30250 Rancho Viejo Road. The shuttle will drop you off just a short walk away from the event. Parking for the shuttle and the shuttle ride itself will be free to everyone as well.
