Know why I love the
One million dollars, or a penny that doubles in value every day for the next 31 days? Spoiler alert: the “correct” answer is the penny. Why? Because when that penny doubles in value every day for 30 days it will be worth over $5.0 million!
Small changes done consistently over time add up to big results. Make these 7 small changes now and get ready for some big awesomeness in the new year! The effect is the same when we make small changes in our own daily lives.
If we are consistent and perform new habits, or small changes every day, the impact will compound over time, and “suddenly,” we’ll see some big changes! If you make these small changes now, without all the fuss and glamour of “New Year’s Resolutions,” by the time the New Year’s confetti is cleaned up you will be showing off some amazing results!
Unsuscribe
That’s right, go right to your email and unsubscribe to all those marketing emails clogging up your inbox. All those newsletters you don’t read. Gone. Clear out the clutter, and keep it clean, to minimize mailbox overwhelm and mayhem.
Unplug
Allow yourself a techno-timeout every day. I recommend the last hour before you go to bed. Turn off the screen, be done with digital, and allow yourself some downtime. This small change will relax you and signal to your brain and body that it is time to slow down and prepare to rest. It’s magical, you will see!
Create a Gratitude Journal
Since you will be all unplugged, the next small change that will transform your heart and soul is the start of a gratitude practice. You can get a fancy journal or a spiral notebook, whatever works for you!
Take however long you need to write down a list of things for which you are grateful. It can be one thing or 100 things. You can list the same thing
Get More Steps In
Even if you don’t wear a tracker, you can incorporate a
Commit to taking the stairs instead of the elevator or the escalator. Get up after 45 minutes of sitting and walk around for 5-10 minutes. Get the feet moving and the blood flowing!
Stop Dieting
Diets don’t work. Take the pressure off and refocus your attention to what your body really needs: good nutrition. Start with breakfast. Eat a breakfast made of protein, fiber, and complex carbs every day.
Master that, and then focus on hitting your daily hydration goal. Small changes, one at a time.
Eat Out Less
Most likely you will save money. But more importantly, your calories will be more high quality and nutrient-dense. Let’s say you eat lunch out three times a week, and also eat dinner out three times a week. Total of six restaurant meals.
Subtract two and eat out four times between the two meals. Master that, and cut down one or two more times. All that money you saved on eating out will come in handy when you need to buy new pants since your old ones won’t fit!
Small Changes
By incorporating small changes vs. wide sweeping changes, you allow yourself the opportunity to make small adjustments in your daily routine to accommodate the new. If you master this, you will rock the new year like no one’s business!
