Goal setting is boring. There, I said it. But it is, right? Every year, millions of people dust off an old journal, or maybe buy a new one, pull out their pencils and pens, and begin the usual task of goal setting for the year ahead.
Goal setting is important and necessary to accomplish things in our lives. Here are five ways to make goal setting totally fun and not suck! We all settle in and ask ourselves the same questions (or versions thereof):
- What am I good at?
- What do I love to do?
- What does my dream job, body, or relationship look like?
- Where did I have success last year and how can I improve this year?
Blah Blah Blah….BORING!
Goal setting is important and necessary.
Yep. I just said that too. No, I’ve not gone mad. I’m just saying that goal setting is necessary to accomplish things in our lives. If we aim for nothing, we’ll hit it every time! Drifting is no way to live. Here’s one of my all-time favorite quotes:
For things to change you need to change. For things to get better, you need to get better
Jim Rohn
Goal Setting Can Be FUN!
Here are some great ways to begin your goal setting process at ANY time of the year. Do it alone, or with a favorite human being, or many favorite human beings. Keep them a secret, or tell others all about your goals.
Buy a fancy journal, or use the back side of a paper plate. Just try these ways to open your mind and imagine the possibilities. And build your steps from there.
Create The Average Perfect Day
Visualize it. Every last detail! Where are you? What do you look like? Who do you wake up next to? What’s your first thought? What do you do first? Mental gratitude list? Followed by a kiss with …? Brush teeth? Shower? Workout?
What do you do to make money? Plot out your average perfect day daily schedule, build it out, a day you could live over and over without getting bored with enough challenge to keep you growing and enough rest to keep you going.
Then answer: what can you begin doing NOW, and what do the action steps look like for the rest?
Money Is No Object Kind of Life
Somehow, you have enough money to live your life and do the things you want to do. All the bills will get paid. You’ve got all the money you need to make things happen with your life, soooo….
what will you do today to start changing it? What would your life look like? How will you spend your time? With whom do you spend it?
The Land Of No Regrets
Let’s pretend you are in a place where you can look back on your life and identify the things you regret not doing, places you regret not visiting, people you regret not connecting with, whatever.
That land of “I Wish I Could Go Back and …..” Here it is! You have the opportunity to change all of that and leave the earth with no regrets. What does that look like for you? Make a list and set some goals to leave the Earth with, you guessed it, no regrets.
What’s Your Superpower?
What would you do with your resources (time, talent, finances) if there was nothing that stood in your way? Like a superhero who was ready to save the day, who would you help?
What would you create or do or say? How would you change the world to make it a better place for all mankind?
Grab Scissors And A Glue Stick
Maybe you are a little more tactile and want to wade through magazines and articles and
Your dream car, home, or vacation? Or maybe your perfect job? How about your perfect mate, family, or pets? A look or a feeling captured in a picture or magazine spread. To see it is to believe it’s possible! Go for it and craft away!
