Micronutrients: The Cheat Code Nobody Told You About

If you’ve ever wondered why you take a multivitamin every day and still feel like something’s missing, this is for you.

If You’re New Here

A few weeks back I wrote about taking the Bioniq quiz and getting my own personalized vitamin formula. I said I’d report back once I’d actually lived with it for a while. This is that report.

If you haven’t read that one yet, go catch up here and then come back. If you’re all caught up, let’s keep going.

The Problem With One Size Fits All

Here’s something most of us never think about. We track our protein. We count our carbs. Some of us watch our fat grams too. Macros get all the attention, and that’s not wrong, they matter.

But micronutrients, the vitamins and minerals, quietly run the rest of the show. Cognition. Energy. Skin, nails, bones, teeth. How well you age. How much muscle you can actually build and keep. All of it traces back to whether your body is getting what it wants at the level it wants it.

And that level is personal. Your protein target depends on your weight, your age, your goals. The same is true for micronutrients. What your body wants is shaped by your age, your weight, your biological sex, and what you’re trying to do with your health. A vitamin built for the average person isn’t built for you, because there’s no such thing as an average person.

That gap doesn’t show up overnight. It rolls in quietly, one skipped nutrient at a time, until you’re standing in the vitamin aisle wondering why the bottle that worked for your friend doesn’t seem to be doing much for you.

Where Bioniq Came From

Bioniq started with a former professional athlete who hit a wall. He had the training, the trainers, the supplements, everything that was supposed to work, and he still felt off. Foggy. Tired. Not himself. A blood test led him to a researcher who’d spent years studying how personalized micronutrients affect cognitive and physical performance in athletes. That research became the foundation of the company.

Over time, tens of thousands of people used the product and got their blood tested along the way. I heard, in a conversation with someone close to the company, that out of that entire early group, only a couple of people actually had fully optimized micronutrient levels. Not zero. Not close to everyone either. A couple. Even people with access to the best of everything weren’t automatically getting it right.

It’s not some no-name brand chasing a trend either. Cristiano Ronaldo became an investor and a user years before most people had heard the name Bioniq. Herbalife took notice too, the same company that’s led the way in protein powders, botanicals, and sports nutrition for decades, and that now sells the number one meal replacement shake in the world. Bioniq stayed its own brand though. Its own packaging, its own look, nothing folded in or watered down. Real science, real backing, and still built around one idea: your formula should be yours.

What Makes This Different

Here’s what actually sets it apart. You take a quiz, set your goals, and get a formula built around you. No blood draw required for this version.

The delivery system is where it gets interesting. It’s not a tablet. It’s a Swiss granule that looks like uncooked quinoa. Each one is coated in a fiber layer that finds water once you swallow it, expands, and releases gradually instead of all at once. Nothing gets flushed out before your body can use it. I haven’t come across anything else on the market built this way.

And it’s not the luxury price tag you’d expect. My formula runs $109 a month for 24 vitamins and minerals. Out of curiosity, I priced out the cheapest individual versions of everything in my formula on Amazon. It came to $239.72. More than double, for a stack of separate bottles dosed for nobody in particular instead of one formula dosed for me.

Four Weeks In: What I’ve Actually Noticed

I started my formula on July 24th, so as of this writing it’s been four weeks. The instructions say not to blend the granules into a shake, so I’ve spent that month figuring out what actually works for me.

I’ve tried a few methods. Straight into my mouth with a water chaser. Folded gently into a shake or some Greek yogurt, careful not to chew. And what I’ve started calling the Gulp Method: granules on top of the shake, first sip gulped down to catch them, scoop by scoop, stainless steel straw, done.

What I’ve noticed matters more than how I take them. I feel satisfied all day. Not craving salt, not craving sugar, just hungry when I’m actually hungry for food. My brain feels dialed in. Sharper. More clarity, more creative thinking. Leveled up is the honest way to put it.

I’ll be straight about the one con. Those granules like to find the space between my teeth. The first two weeks I was checking my smile in the mirror before I left the house. I’ve gotten better at it since, but I won’t pretend it wasn’t a learning curve.

Okay, for my roll-and-go people: you might need to take a breath and find your own best method for these little scoops of Swiss granule goodness. A little patience pays off.

I stuck with it, because I started feeling better within days, and that mattered more than a little extra brushing. A few incidental things worth mentioning: I don’t miss taking a tablet three times a day. One and done feels good. I did trim my stack down, but not all the way. Things I kept: my heart health packet, Omega 3’s, and a couple of botanicals with jobs different from vitamins and minerals. Everything else, the formula picked up for me.

If You’re on a GLP-1

If you’re taking a GLP-1 medication, this section is worth slowing down for. Eating less is the whole point of these medications, and that’s not the problem. The problem is smaller portions leave less room to cover everything your body wants, and the shortfall doesn’t announce itself. Protein tends to get the spotlight, and it should. Fiber and micronutrients quietly fall off the plate.

A recent review pulling data from over 480,000 adults on GLP-1 medications found vitamin D deficiency in nearly 14 percent of users after a year, and iron levels running 26 to 30 percent lower than non-users. A separate look at actual eating patterns found people on GLP-1s averaging around 7 grams of fiber a day, well under what most adults want for digestion and steady blood sugar. None of that is a scare tactic. It’s just what happens when volume goes down and nobody adjusts for what’s missing.

This is exactly the gap personalized micronutrients are built to close, without asking you to choke down another handful of supplements on top of everything else you’re already managing.

Where This Leaves You

I’m not here to tell you my formula is the answer to everything. I’m telling you what four weeks of paying attention actually looked like, teeth and all.

If you’re curious what your own numbers might look like, take the quiz and see what comes back. No pressure either way, just information you didn’t have before.

And if you want a broader look at where your habits stand right now, the NewStart Navigator is a good place to start.

Curious or committed, all are welcome.
